P is for Picnic, Paint Night, Pool

Picnics can be lots of fun, either with a bunch of friends at the beach or a more romantic setting like the picnic we had on the ledge of the Grand Canyon when we took the helicopter ride. They had a cute basket filled with sandwiches and champagne. I really am so glad we went on that adventure.

How about a paint night? This is us painting the walls of my studio. I love that color but there is so much stuff in there now you can hardly see it! There is also a new painting experience in our town called Pinot’s Palette where you can go and have a glass or two of beer or wine and paint a picture. It looks like fun but I don’t know what I’d do with them when they are done. I mean, yes, we could hang one but do we really need two of the same picture? Maybe we could give one as a Christmas gift? And then how do we choose which one to keep? Would we fight over whose is “better?”

Finally there is pool time. I searched high and low for a picture of the hubby that I know I have somewhere but couldn’t find it so you just get me.

There is the other kind of pool too, the one with the balls and pool cue but I don’t have any pictures of those either. Told you I was winging it! 10 letters left and some of them are pretty tricky. Whatever will I do with Q and X? Guess you just have to keep checking!

  1. Hi, Janet!

Happy Tuesday and P-Day, dear friend!

After visiting many beaches over the years and the Grand Canyon with Mrs. Shady more recently, I would surely choose a picnic at the beach. When we lived in Venice, we went to a lovely spot just off the beach where there was a grill in a shady grove for public use. We had cookouts on several occasions at that peaceful spot.

One of my fondest memories can be traced back to the mid 70s when Mrs. Shady #1 and I had a painting party/date that lasted an entire weekend. We painted our walls as did you and Bill in these pictures. As we painted, we were tuned to a classic rock radio station and sang along. It passed the time and made the experience more like play than work.

I can't help wondering how well Pinot's Palette Paint and Sip is doing. Do you know if they are doing a brisk business? I went to their site and read the FAQ page. It's intended mainly as a social drinking event. I doubt that they are expecting many masterpieces to be created, especially if people are under the influence and their hand - eye coordination deteriorates as they try to follow the instructions and copy the featured painting. Of course, I'm coming from my own experience. I actually never drank "socially." I drank only with the intention of getting drunk, and this went on just about every night from my teens until my early 40s. Thank goodness I finally snapped out of it and cleaned myself up.

In those final pics, you seemed to be in your glory soakin' up the sun by the pool. We have a pool and a hot tub here at our house and yet I rarely use them. I always find other things I'd rather be doing.

Yessum, there are some tough letters coming up. I suppose that's why they call it a "Challenge." Tomorrow, I urge you to take the easy way out, cheat a little, and discuss the "Q-ball" in your billiard set. :) ...or the time you and your hubby had a "Q-tip date," whatever that might be. :)

Have a terrific Tuesday and I'll see you tomorrow, dear friend Janet!

    1. Hello my friend. I am surprised at how well the Pinot's Palatte is doing. They post a lot on Instagram and it looks like they have a packed house. They often do corporate parties and have some kids times too. I can imagine my kids wanting to do something like that for their birthday party when they were younger. We have a friend who goes quite often and brings her family with her. I said she was going to have to get a bigger house to hold all of the artwork.

The beach and the pool are my happy spots. Maybe because I am a Pisces? In my younger days before we knew so much about skin cancer a day in the sun by the water was heaven for me and my Italian skin would rarely burn but instead turn a nice shade of tan.

You are right about the "challenge" but I'm going to give it my best shot. See you tomorrow!

  3. There's quite some fun stuff to do that starts with a P. Pizza night comes to my mind as well.
Speaking of food. You know who enjoyed a picnic on the ledge of the Grand Canyon, just like you guys? The characters in "Fools Rush in":

  4. You are right about pizza night! That would have been a good one too. I haven't seen "Fools Rush In". Thanks for sharing that!

  6. When we lived in Texas I planned a romantic picnic in the park, complete with checkered blanket spread out on the grass... but I overlooked one problem... bugs galore came out of nowhere, crawling and flying. We had to quickly gather the goodies and scramble out of there. We ate in the car! It's a fun memory, though.

I love the color of your studio walls!

Our daughter arranged a "father/daughter date night" and they went to a paint studio and did acrylic painting. She has hers at her house and my husband's is at our house. I never considered the problem that could arise if he and I both went and had two of the same painting.

In our community we have access to a billiards room where we can play pool any time we want to. It's a free date for us, and lots of fun (except when he gets too competitive, like he does with miniature golf).

    1. Yes, bugs is one of the drawbacks of picnics. Fun to have a billiards room.
