N is for Netflix, National Park, Nightclub

Watching Netflix could definitely be a date. It’s the movies, right? We have watched a lot of good ones, including some that are older that we either didn’t see when they were in the theaters or saw so long ago that we forgot them (which happens when you get of a certain age). Occasionally we will binge watch a TV series. I would suggest, however, that if you do decide to binge watch a series, you should keep your eye on the Netflix guide that tells you when the series is going to be taken off. We learned that the hard way when we started to watch a show called Person of Interest. We were on the last season, almost to the last episode and they took the show off! Do you know how frustrating that is? I just may have to buy the DVDs so we can see the ending.

Going to a nightclub is a different experience than the theater or a concert. It makes me think of the old “speakeasy” although alcohol is certainly not illegal. In fact a lot of clubs have a drink minimum. Some nightclubs have dancing, although if you remember my hubby doesn’t dance much so the ones we’ve seen have been of the comedy variety. Rosanne Barr (before her most recent inappropriate behavior) and Ben Bailey from the Cash Cab were pretty good.

Visiting a national park could be another fun date. We have nine of them in California, more than any other state. I don’t have pictures of our own experiences there, yet. I recently found out that my hubby has never been to Yosemite and I haven’t been since I was a young girl so I think that goes on the list of places we need to go. It is about a 3 hour drive so probably would be more than a day trip but we could manage, probably NOT before the letter “Y” though, just in case you were wondering.

Okay. Time to take a break and try to visit as many other folks on the list as I can for the rest of today and tomorrow. Have a wonderful Easter if you celebrate. Since the kids are grown it is just another Sunday here.

  1. Hi, Janet!

Happy Saturday and N-Day, dear friend!

Yessum, Mrs. Shady and I watch Netflix regularly, and we enjoy our in-house movie dates. Right now, we are plowing through the late seasons of The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. I am also nearing the end of Ozark, possibly the best series I've ever watched. A few years ago, Mrs. S and I watched Person of Interest all the way through to the finale. It was one of our favorite shows. "Miss Groves" aka "Root," one of our favorite characters on Person of Interest, is currently co-starring in the fire & rescue series 9-1-1 Lone Star set in Austin, Texas. She's Rob Lowe's love interest on the show. Yessum, it can be very frustrating when the cable system suddenly pulls the plug on a favorite series. I had it happen to me in the middle of Scandal. Another thing that Amazon Prime in particular likes to do is offer a few episodes of a series or maybe a couple of seasons to get customers hooked, then announces that you need to pay to see the rest of the episodes. Heck, we are already paying the subscription fee! Mrs. S loves Leo DiCaprio and I told her about Don't Look Up, but she wasn't interesting in watching it. Maybe it will be another that I watch by myself.

When I first came to Florida in 1984, I went to comedy clubs regularly because they were quite a popular form of entertainment down here in the Bay area. Back home in PA, I never even heard of one in my vicinity.

Wow, I didn't know that California has 9 National Parks, more than any other state. I am a lover of cacti and succulents and therefore was in my glory the day we visited the Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona, in 2014. We were standing in the visitor's center gazing through the huge window when a herd of javelina (collared peccaries) approached the building and flopped down in the sand to escape the heat of the sun. I was thrilled to view those wild pigs from my vantage point only a few feet away. That same day, I had a chance to see many old and awesome specimens of columnar and globular cacti.

Thanks for sharing your dating hints for N-day, dear friend Janet. Enjoy your break, have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you back here on Monday. FYI - I'll be starting a new post on Monday as well. It's another special Shady Dell related birthday tribute and you're invited to the party!

    1. Hey Shady, as if Amazon needed more money, right? Don't Look Up was very good. Leo did not play his typical handsome, smooth part. I want to add some succulents to our yard since they don't require much care. I'm not really a plant person.

I think I would be scared to be close to those collared peccaries.

I will be on the lookout for your Monday post. See you then!

  2. Another set of fun choices Janet. Yosemite is my favorite national park. I've been there several times, including for a friend's wedding which was probably the most lovely wedding I've ever been to.

  3. I lived in California for the majority of my life and had never visited Yosemite. I might have to come back there for a visit :) My husband liked Person of Interest when it was on "regular" TV and not Netflix. Good advice though to check to see where the series will be removed from Netflix. I recently finished Good Girls on Netflix; enjoyed that :) I have not been to a nightclub in years but had fun when I did :)

    Happy Easter!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Betty. I always forget about how beautiful Yosemite is until I see it in pictures and then I think, man we should go there!

  4. Yes we enjoy Netflix and have also had that happen - ugg
Trying to stay away from series (good luck with that)
My hubby has never been to Yosemite so it's on our list also.
Hope you are having some fun time with your hubby this weekend.

    1. Well not really. He got his second Covid booster today and he always has a bad couple days after that.

  5. National Parks in the Southwest are the best! (Even though if you ask my teenager he'll say "boring")
How rude of Netflix to remove the series you were watching!

    1. Right? And it wouldn't have been so bad if we had just started the series but we were so close to the end!

  6. I don't have Netflix but that would burn my britches if it was suddenly gone. I have not seen those TV shows either. I have been to nightclubs many a time in my 20s youth and enjoyed dancing and drinking. I have not seen many comedy club performances though. I am so happy that you have that many National parks. We need them to protect nature. One day I would love to visit Yosemite but there are many parks I would love to visit.

  7. We have certainly used our Netflix subscription over the last couple of years but that's good advice about checking dates. I think we're past going to nightclubs but national parks would definitely be on my date list.

    1. Yes, Netflix certainly came in handy the last couple of years. The national parks give discounts to seniors too!

  8. I'm too embarrassed to say how many series we've binge-watched on Netflix and Hulu. Person of Interest is included in that count, too.

We went to the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona last year and hope to go to more National Parks each year. I read a book titled, "Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park" by Conor Knighton. Being a fan of A to Z themes, that book peaked my interest so I had to read it. It's very well-written with lots of humor and it sparked a desire to visit the National Parks. My husband is retired military, so we get in free!

    1. Nice Trudy! Maybe you should do an A to Z with your park visits!

    2. Another thought about Netflix... regarding Person of Interest being taken off before you completed the series... maybe your library has the DVDs. I checked the library where I live, and they have it there so maybe yours might, too.

    3. Thanks! I'll look at the library!
