B is for Bowling, Baseball, Beach

Bowling has always been a fun thing for us to do. We were on a few leagues together and I even managed to win a couple trophies. I was actually on a league and bowling during my eighth month of pregnancy with our first. My husband is the better bowler and even bowled a perfect 300 game once. Sadly I wasn’t there to see it because I was home with the kids. I laugh because he wears his 300 ring when we go out but not his wedding ring, which doesn’t fit. We did go bowling in 2020 for my birthday, right before things were shut down because of Covid. My form is not so hot but I did get a strike!

I couldn’t leave baseball out of the dating game. We have tickets in the 415 section again this year so we’re looking forward to that. But, in our younger days I had fun watching my hubby play on his leagues. He was a pitcher and a pretty good one too. (I think that’s why he was able to win those stuffed animals I talked about yesterday.) I would sit in the stands and cheer him on. “Go hun!” I would yell. Pretty soon the other guys on the team were calling him “hun” too.

But another thing we used to do when we were dating was collect baseball cards and organize them. Hours and hours would be spent putting them in numerical order. We still have them too, and have added to the collection through the years. Now he organizes them with our son. He even has his own baseball card!

And last but not least is the beach. We are so fortunate to live close enough to get to the beach whenever we want, but don’t take advantage of it too often. I love to watch the waves crashing in and smell the salt water. We’ll have to start taking Benny there more.

Okay, made it through “B.” Good thing we have a day off tomorrow. I want to say up front that I am going to try and get to visit some new folks on Sundays because I probably can’t do it during the week.

  1. Hi, Janet!

I enjoyed your "B" post, dear friend. I had no idea that you and your hubby are both gifted athletes. I never knew anyone who bowled a perfect 300 game. Congratulations to your hubby! Turns out, you're a doggone good bowler yourself! I enjoyed the video showing you rolling a strike. I noticed that you have a style in which the ball 'backs up" - drifts from left to right and into the pocket. That's somewhat unusual for a right handed bowler. I was a very good bowler in college. One day at the lanes in State College, PA, I started a solo game by rolling 8 strikes in a row. When I heard a murmuring crowd of people gathering behind me to watch, I choked and messed up the last two frames.

Turning to baseball, I'm glad you guys have season tickets for the 415 section. Here again, I take my hat (cap) off to your hubby. He must have been a great pitcher. I played baseball in Little League and in the age 13 to 15 league. Our team was sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles. I am left handed, and therefore was pressed into service as pitcher but, as a lefty, I was also a natural to play first base. I also collected baseball cards in my youth.

I love to watch dogs romp at the beach. You should take Benny and let him run around. He'd love it.

I enjoyed seeing these pictures of you and your hubby through the years. You looked cute in your bowling shirt and in the pictures taken at the beach.

Enjoy your day off and I'll see you on Monday, dear friend Janet!

    1. Thanks my friend. I am getting a little emotional looking at these old photos of us as I realize that those days are long gone. However, then I see pictures of us at the baseball games and realize that we are still a cute couple. I certainly wouldn't classify myself as an athlete either but did have fun bowling. I don't think I could hit a baseball though. See you Monday. Have a great rest of the weekend.

    1. Thanks Deborah! We do have more opportunity now that we don't have kids to worry about. In fact, we use them now to babysit the dog - LOL

  3. I had no idea that there is such a thing as a "bowling ring." Cool!

  4. I took a bowling class in college for P.E. credit. Problem is, I came out of that class a worse bowler than when I started! Still, we love to bowl, and maybe if we went more often, I would improve. We went bowling with a grandchild in January and I had the lowest score. I wish I could say I lost on purpose so that our grandson would feel better about his score... but it truly was my poor bowling skills!

Love love love the beach. Wish we lived close enough to a beach to go there for dates, but we go to the beach for vacations!

    1. Anytime is a good time for the beach! I totally would consider bowling again if it wasn't so hard for my husband. I'd rather not have him throw his back out.
