M is for Musical, Museum, Mini-Golf

While we go to lots of concerts, I consider shows that we see in a theater musicals. Menopause the Musical was one of my favorites but I went with girlfriends. I suppose you could still call those dates, right? Hubby and I have seen Rain, the Beatles Tribute, Jersey Boys and Rock of Ages. They were fun. Wish I could have taken more pictures but they are not usually allowed and in a theater it’s a lot harder to sneak than in a concert.

We’ve been to a few museums too. When we went to Oregon a couple years ago, in addition to the Lava Butte we saw the High Desert Museum and stopped to check it out. We didn’t go inside but around the entrance were some very interesting sculptures. The Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf is a fun time too. That’s another place we haven’t been to in a long time and they probably have a lot of new figures. The De Young Museum had a Summer of Love exhibit where they were showcasing the San Francisco hippie days. I think my jacket was a perfect one to wear on that day. I fit right in with the times. Definitely have lost a few pounds since then!

No pictures here but miniature golf is another great date idea in my opinion. We’ve gone a few times but since hubby is a “real” golfer, he says that playing mini golf wrecks his game. I’m not sure about that honestly but whatever. Personally, I just think that he doesn’t want to get beat by me. LOL.

One more day this week and then a day of rest. I’ll be visiting as many new folks as I can over the weekend. Appreciate all the visits I’ve had from folks so far. Happy Friday.

  1. Hi, Janet!

Happy M-day, dear friend! I might have asked you this question when you introduced these musical shows to me a couple of years ago, but I was wondering which of the three is best overall in your opinion - the Beatles tribute, the Four Seasons tribute or the one that covers songs by Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Europe? On paper, it's hard for me to decide which I'd like most.

Mrs. Shady and I love museums. I went to The Smithsonian during my years in scouting and as an adult visited Madame Tussauds Orlando wax museum. Over the years that Mrs. S and I have been together, we have gone on "dates" to see M.O.S.I. - the Museum of Science and Industry - located here in Tampa (where they had that traveling cadaver exhibit a few years ago), the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, and The Salvador DalĂ Art Museum in St. Petersburg. One of the most fascinating museum experiences we've had was visiting the Mexican Folk Toy Museum on our trip to Central Mexico three years ago. Here's a look at some of the spectacular toys on display:

I would love to see all three of the museums you wrote about today, the High Desert Museum, your Madame Tussauds at Fisherman's Wharf and the Summer of Love exhibit. I agree that your outfit was perfect for that latter occasion.

I agree with you that your hubby doesn't want you beating him at his own game, so to speak. Surely, playing a round of miniature golf helps a golfer improve his/her short game, even if just a little, and is a fun activity and a great bonding experience.

Enjoy the rest of your day and I'll see you tamale for N-Day, dear friend Janet!

    1. Happy Friday Friend Shady! I would definitely say that my favorite of the three was Jersey Boys. To me it told more of a story than the other ones. Of course, I know it's a true story so that might make a difference.

Thanks for sharing the Mexican Toy Museum with me. That looks like a really fun place. Such bright colors and lots of stuff to see.

I would think that mini golf would help with putting but there's something about the lack of real grass that makes a difference. See you tomorrow!

  2. We've done a few museums in our time and we introduced our grandson to mini golf or crazy golf as we call it just last week. At only 5 he found it a bit challenging. We tried to show him how to hold the putter but he insisted on doing it his way. Took us a while to get round what was actually a very short course lol.

  3. You are speaking my language when you mention museums. I enjoy a good museum or even small ones because you never know what you will find. Hubby and I have been to quite a few. The AGO ( the art gallery of Ontario in Toronto) is excellent and. Have been lucky to see some great museums around Europe. I love seeing musicals on stage and saw some great one like The King and I with Yul Brynner, La Cage Aux Folles, Show Boat with my mom and the Hilarious Mel Brook’s one, “The Producers.” One day I hope to get my hubby to go to one as I think he may like it.

  4. We did both of them recently. There is a Queen - as in the rock band - museum in Switzerland, very cool to visit, especially since it's housed in a casino.

    1. I remember reading in Freddie Mercury's biography that he liked Switzerland. I'll bet that museum would be a fun one to see.

  5. I like playing miniature golf for fun. My husband likes to make it a competition and that takes the fun out of it (for me). We haven't done any "putt-putt" golfing in a long time. Maybe we'll give it another go.
