February Fling - 2019 - Love Is In Da Blog - Movie Love Songs

Our friend Bee at Love Is In Da Blog asks for love songs from a movie.  I can't narrow it down to just one but I was able to stop at two.  Both can make me cry.  Evergreen from A Star is Born - the one with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson which I think I need to see again since we just watched the new version.

Evergreen
Love soft as an easy chair
Love fresh as the morning air
One love that is shared by two
I have found with you
Like a rose under the April snow
I was always certain love would grow
Love ageless and evergreen
Seldom seen by two
You and I will
Make each night the first
Everyday a beginning
Spirits rise and their dance is unrehearsed
They warm and excite us
'Cause we have the brightest love
Two lights that shine as one
Morning glory and midnight sun
Time, we've learned to sail above
Time, won't change the meaning of one love
Ageless and ever, evergreen

And Unchained Melody from Ghost.

Unchained melody
Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home, wait for me
Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered, for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Can't spend too much time playing today.  Work calls.  What's your favorite love song from a movie?

February Fling - 2019 The Studio - Part 2

We all know I'm a crafter.  Have been since I was young.  I have scrapbooks from my high school days.  I save things...ticket stubs, napkins, swizzle sticks, and of course pictures.  I have a lot of pictures that are in boxes and bins waiting to be put into albums.  I have even more on my computers that are not printed yet.  Don't we all?

My first scrapbook

My first real concert

For a long time my crafty side was a bit dormant while we raised the family.  I did make some Halloween costumes, curtains for the windows and helped them with school projects so I've always had a space for "crafty things."  Most of the time it was just a couple of shelves in a closet.

Slowly but surely my crafts started to accumulate so that they would no longer fit in a closet.  Plus, I needed to have a space to work on them besides the table in the kitchen.  Any crafter knows you need to be able to leave things out when you're in the middle of a project rather than having to put everything away and then take it all out again each time you want to work on something.  So, I took over a corner of the living room as my craft area.

That worked for a while but I still had to keep things looking kind of neat since it was the living room.

When our daughter decided to go away to college, I took the opportunity to steal some of her room to house my collection.  My first major purchase was the Scrapbox Workbox.  I managed to get it on sale and I am so glad I did!  Hubby and I put it together and it really wasn't that difficult, just big.

Albums and paper
TV to watch the Giants

After her second year of college our daughter moved into a townhouse near school and had a job up there so she stayed at school year round and I expanded to take over the whole room.

When our son moved out, I did a room switch and took over his room.  I really liked the brighter color on the wall and with a little rearranging, I had a great set up.

Looking in the doorway

One wall

The other wall.
The fourth wall in the room is a closet and it is filled with my husband's baseball card collection and sports memorabilia.

But everyone knows you can never have enough craft supplies and now the room looks like this:

Can't open the door all the way!

You can see the closet full of baseball cards

So much stuff!

Can't even see out the window!

So now you see why the studio is being built in the backyard!  I can't wait to make the move.  I should maybe go through things as I am moving and donate what I know I won't use to a school or something.  Maybe have a sale?

At this moment the studio is completely insulated and the sheet rock is about 1/3 done.  I've already picked out the paint colors I want and have looked at floor covering.  We're moving along!  Stay tuned for Part 3!

February Fling - 2019 Love is in da Blog - The Wedding

The prompt for today is A Wedding Song.

I can't really say "our wedding song" because when we got married we did not have a big wedding.  There were only 10 people there, including Bill and I.  It was a beautiful day and we were married on a Vista Point at Zephyr Cove, Nevada. (Doesn't that sound romantic?)

After the ceremony we went to Harrah's and had breakfast and then we all split up to go gambling.  No reception or tossing of the bouquet or garter.  None of the usual first dance things.  If we had had a traditional reception, one of the songs that we have always liked is "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston and Syreeta.

When we celebrated our 25th anniversary we drove to Reno and on the way home we stopped in Zephyr Cove to visit the wedding spot.  It had changed a bit, as things do over 25 years.

I guess so have we.

That was 10 years ago.  I think about renewing our vows on one of the milestone anniversaries.  Maybe in five years for our 40th?  If we did that and had a party, perhaps our song would be this one:

Although I'm not sure we could dance to such a fast song, so how about this one:

What was your wedding song?  Thanks to Bee for this fun challenge.

February Fling - 2019 - The Studio - In the beginning...

If you haven't read that I am getting a studio in my backyard then you are seriously missing my posts and you better catch up!  I'll give you a recap.

We have a really huge backyard and I WANT to say that since the kids are grown we don't need all that room but TRUTHFULLY we never really utilized it much even when they were little.  I don't know why.  In time it got to look like this:

We razed the worst section to the ground and it looked like this:

But then we could see we needed a new fence desperately.

So we had a new fence put in.  Thankfully the neighbors behind us helped with the cost.

Then the yard looked like this for a while.  You can see that the left side is still pretty much just dirt but the middle and right side has greenery.

The outside of our house looked pretty shabby and the roof was starting to leak in the kitchen so we decided it was time to spruce the mansion up a bit.

We had 21st Century come and give it a facelift.  They are an excellent company to work with and we highly recommend them.

Quite a difference from the old to the new, but now the backyard was overgrown again.

We decided that the bathroom was more important than the backyard at the time so we called our friends at 21st Century again and they did this:

But still the backyard looked like a hayfield or a jungle.

I tried to clear it myself since my husband has a bad back and can't do this kind of work but after a whole day this is all I could manage.

One more time we hired someone to come and raze it to ground zero status.

And we even had a tent in it so we could have a get together after our daughter's graduation from college.  That tent is 10 x 10 just to give you an idea.

We also hired someone to come and keep the weeds and other things from growing back until we could decide what we wanted to do out there.  You need money for these kinds of projects and even if money did grow on trees, we no longer had any of either :)

That's it for installment #1.  Hope you come back for Part 2.

February Fling - 2019 - Song Lyric Sunday and Love is in da Blog

Yay!  I found a song to fit both prompts (#SLS - Mountain and #Loveisindablog a song from 2019) and I am happy to share with you.  This is from the Backstreet Boys new release "DNA" and it is called "No Place."

I've been a fan of the Backstreet Boys (yes, I'm 62, don't judge) ever since they first came out.  I much preferred their music to the NSYNC guys.  I think the harmony is so much better.  They released a new album last month and I love it.  This is one of the cutest videos I've seen too.  It shows all of the boys with their families singing the song.

The words:

No Place
I've been to Paris, made my way down to Rome
Seen the sun setting on the beach in Mexico
But I could care less, 'cause I was all alone
And there ain't no way to touch your body over the phone
I've been all around the world, done all there is to do
But you'll always be the home I wanna come home to
You're a wild night with a hell of a view
There ain't no place, ain't no place like you
There ain't no place, ain't no place like you
You're my daybreak, you're my California sun
You're my Memphis, New York, New Orleans all rolled into one
In the city, the country, the mountains or sea
Wherever you are, baby, that's where I wanna be
I've been all around the world, done all there is to do
But you'll always be the home I wanna come home to
You're a wild night with a hell of a view
There ain't no place, ain't no place like you
There ain't no place, ain't no place like you, no
There ain't no place (no place, no place)
Ooh, yeah, ain't no place
Wherever you are, baby, that's where I wanna be
I've been all around the world, done all there is to do
But you'll always be the home I wanna come home to
You're a wild night with a hell of a view
There ain't no place, ain't no place like you
There ain't no place, ain't no place like you
Said there ain't no place, ain't no place like you, yeah
There ain't no place (no place, no place)
No place
There ain't no place like
No place like you
No place, no place, no place, no place
There ain't no place, no place like you

One-Liner Wednesday

One of my favorite sayings made even better!

My daughter and I were browsing the store Tuesday Morning and saw this sign.  Cracked me up so I took a picture.  She said, "I gotta buy that" and did!

February Fling - 2019

Just another quick one because the Love Is In Da Blog prompt for today is music from the 1950's and I was born in 55 so I'll choose the song that was #1 the day I was born:

Sincerely by the Maguire Sisters

Sincerely, oh yes, sincerely
'cause I love you so dearly, please say you'll be mine
Sincerely, oh you know how I love you
I'll do anything for you, please say you'll be mine
Oh Lord, won't you tell me why
I love that fella so
He doesn't want me
But I'll never never never never let him go!
Sincerely, oh you know how I love you
I'll do anything for you, please say you'll be mine
Oh Lord, won't you tell me why
I love that fella so
He doesn't want me
But I'll never never never never let him go!
Sincerely, oh you know how I love you
I'll do anything for you, please say you'll be mine
Please say you'll be mine
Songwriters: Alan Freed / Harvey Fuqua

Cute little song, no?

February Fling - 2019

Time for Song Lyric Sunday again.  Wonder if anyone has heard how Helen is doing.  Better I hope.  Jim is hosting again and the prompt is River/Stream/Creek/Brook.

Gotta go with Tina Turner and River Deep, Mountain High.

River Deep – Mountain High
When I was a little girl, I had a rag doll
Only doll I've ever owned
Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll
But only now my love has grown
And it gets stronger in every way
And it gets deeper, let me say
And it gets higher day by day
Do I love you, my oh my? Oh baby
River deep, mountain high
If I lost you would I cry
Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, baby
When you were a young boy
Did you have a puppy?
That always followed you around
Well, I'm gonna be as faithful as that puppy
No, I'll never let you down
'Cause it grows stronger like a river flows
And it gets sweeter, baby and heaven knows
And it gets sweeter, baby, as it grows
Do I love you, my oh my? Oh baby
River deep, mountain high
If I lost you would I cry
Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, baby
And it gets stronger in every way
And it gets deeper, let me say
And it gets higher day by day
Do I love you, my oh my? Oh baby
River deep, mountain high
If I lost you would I cry
Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, baby
I love you, baby, just like Robin loves to sing
I love you, baby, like a flower loves the spring
And I love you, baby, like a school boy loves his pet

Tina is another artist that I would love to see again.  We saw her years ago and she is such an energetic performer.  I had a poor camera back then so my pictures are not what I'd like but I did make some pretty neat scrapbook pages out of them.

Have you seen Tina Turner?  Think she'll tour again?  Probably be another one of those ones that it will be extremely hard to get tickets for.   Happy Sunday all!
