A to Z Challenge - 2020 - Isaak

Chris Isaak is helping me fill the "I" spot in the A to Z Challenge.  We were looking for shows to help us keep our "Loyalty status" at the Mountain Winery and saw that he was going to be playing so we decided to take a chance.  We knew a few of his songs but weren't really huge fans.  We were pleasantly surprised at the number of songs we actually did know and he is a very personable performer with lots of crowd interaction.  We didn't realize he has been performing for over 30 years!

In looking through my paper collection, I found this double sided set.  It is not from Paper Wishes so I'm pretty sure I got it at either Michaels or JoAnn's.  It is K and Company brand.

After I started putting the pages together, I went with a completely different color scheme by using the back side of those same papers!

I've had this little beaded embellishment for so long and I thought it fit great here.

We were sitting close enough that my husband was able to sneak up to the stage and take a picture of the setlist!

I'm not sure what the numbers next to the songs are.  Perhaps for the lighting or microphones?

I am taking a chance sometimes by stamping on the page itself.  What if it smudges or doesn't come out cleanly?

Fortunately it did.  I guess I could just rearrange the pictures to hide it or add a different embellishment over that spot.

I just added some simple borders to these pages.  More stuff that I've had around for ages.

I loved the butterfly on this page and had one that matched so I put it up on some foam tape to make it pop off the page.

Another thing I'm trying to use more of is my punches.

Of course I have a musical punch.

For the encore Chris came out in this suit that looked like it was a million tiny mirrors.  I can imagine it being so heavy!  It certainly was sparkly.

I did a little something with the guitar on the middle picture here.

Can you tell?

It is a clear Dazzle sticker that I put over the top.  You can still see his hands but it makes the picture sparkle a little like his suit.

Here's the final version as it is in the album.

We had great seats and I was able to get a lot of good pictures so this one has a lot of pages.  My favorite Chris Isaak song is "Wicked Games." He sang it in the dark and it was so cool.  Here is "Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing."

I always thought that Chris Isaak was a country singer but actually they rocked it pretty good.  He has been singing a lot longer than I realized too and his band has been the same all through the years.  They looked like they were enjoying themselves too.

That's it for "I."  Hope to see you tomorrow for "J."  No, it's not Journey.  I did them in 2017.

  1. Hi, Janet!

You made me smile right off the bat, dear friend. When Mrs. Shady isn't hanging out in the Michaels store, she is milling around in JoAnn's Fabrics. Whenever I tag along with her on those shopping missions, I am desperately seeking the "husband bench." :)

I am not very familiar with Chris Isaak and so I needed to look him up. I vaguely recalled that he is an actor as well as a musician, and when I checked his credits I realized that I have seen him in The Silence of the Lambs, David Lynch's prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and in That Thing You Do. I see that Chris played Astronaut Ed White in the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and had his own TV sitcom The Chris Isaak Show in the early 2000s. I didn't watch it. Did you?

Turning to Chris's music career, I am pretty sure the MTV station where I worked in the 80s and 90s played the music videos for his first two hit singles: "Don't Make Me Dream About You," released in 1989, and "Wicked Game," a 1990 single that didn't become popular until it was used in the soundtrack of the David Lynch film Wild at Heart starring Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern. A huge David Lynch fan, I have seen Fire Walk With Me and Wild At Heart.

I'm happy to know that you and your hubby were pleasantly surprised by the number of songs you recognized at the Chris Isaak concert and that he did a great job of warming the crowd. Rock or pop stars gain my ultimate respect when they are genuinely kind, generous and humble. I am also delighted that you had great seats enabling you to take many excellent pics. That mirrored suit is something else! I listened to the clip and Chris sounds like he's for real - able to do rock, retro rock & roll, rockabilly - you name it.

I leave you with this piece of trivia to connect the dots. I checked the set list and saw that Chris sang the Roy Orbison song "Pretty Woman." In 2004 Chris Isaak appeared on the TV musical family drama American Dreams in the role of Roy Orbison. In the fall of 1963, Roy Orbison charted a single entitled "Pretty Paper." You used pretty paper to showcase today's featured artist Chris Isaak. :)

Enjoy the rest of your day sheltering in place, dear friend Janet. I'll see you tomorrow!

    1. LOL "the husband bench." She is lucky to have you along to hold the packages! I was surprised as well to see how many movies he has been in. I did see Silence of the Lambs but don't remember his part and I saw the old Twin Peaks TV show but not the movie. Wicked Games is one of those songs that just thrill me and when he started singing it in the dark it was so romantic. Thanks for the bit of trivia too. I really appreciate the time you take with your comments! Have a great Friday my friend.

    3. I started using two blogs when I did my first A to Z because a lot of folks were on WordPress and I wanted to make it as easy as possible for everyone to see me :)

  5. I'm not very good at matching artists to song, so at first I thought I'd never heard of Chris Isaak. I asked my husband if he'd heard of him and he played a song for me that I recognized right away. Guess I've heard of him (or at least his music) after all!

    1. Thanks! I was happy that the guitar fit so well over the picture. I've been wanting to try that for a while.
