Blogging From A to Z - 2018 - D is for

Welcome to the letter D in the A to Z Challenge for 2018.  Each day during April I am taking you through the alphabet at Michaels Arts and Crafts store.  Today, D is for Drawing.

Michaels has a great section with all kinds of tools for drawing, from books for the beginner to the specialty pencils, pens and markers,

drawing pads and sketchbooks, both regular and watercolor,

charcoal bits and pencils,

and more detailed books about art and drawing.

There are tons of various sizes and kinds of canvas too, if you want to draw on a larger scale or turn your drawing into a painting.

I've never thought that I could draw, but truthfully I don't think I've tried any drawing since I was in high school.  Maybe I should give it a shot.

How about you?  Draw much?  What tools do you like to use?

Make sure to stop by some of the other A to Z bloggers.  Lots of interesting stuff going on right now!

(Note:  All pictures used in this blog series were taken by me at local Michaels stores).

  1. I dabble a little in drawing, but my wife would spend hours in your store looking at all this art stuff!

    1. That's the thing about Michaels, there's a little something for everyone and you can spend tons of time looking at it all.

  2. It's good to let the hands do the talking I reckon whether doodling or just playing with pens and pencils - I do draw, rather poorly. Sometimes I use water pencils - do the sketch and wash them over. Drawing on the left Side of the Brain is a book I have in my bookshelf. A classic - I can't remember the author's name .. and I can't find it now that I'm looking - Betty someone. Put me in an art shop ... hoo boy, the credit card is in danger. I'm playing with painting on canvases, using acrylic at the moment. Thanks for yhe lovely pictures and post Janet ..

    1. I got a new set of watercolor pencils to try. Now that I'm going to have some more time, I plan on giving a go at some new things. Thanks for stopping by, Susan!

  3. Those shelves of drawing pads makes me shiver in delight. I'd say I'm a drawing dabster, but even if my skills are minimal it gives me great joy. And that's really all that counts isn't it?

    1. Absolutely! I have picked up a few of the pads, some regular and a couple of watercolor ones to use in my card making.

  4. I'd have to practice A LOT before I could draw anything remotely recognizable. But oh...I do love art supplies!

  5. HI Janet, thanks for stopping by this morning. I loved working at Michaels. I taught classes/ demos. They dropped classes right after I quit to move from IL to MO. so I'd have been out of a job anyway. I loved working with customers more than anything.

I used to love drawing. I just don't make the time for it anymore. One of the things I hope to work on this summer with my grandgirls. Nature hikes and sketch pads. Off we go! Creative Blessings!

    1. Sounds like a fun time with the grandkids. My letter E is about the events and classes that they put on. I was a cashier and yes, the customers are fun, most of the time. :) Thanks for returning the visit.

  6. I tell people I can't even draw stick people, but in reality it's that word "can't" that blocks my ability. I'm sure I could draw better if I learned. My grandchildren have been doing some amazing drawings by following tutorials on YouTube. I *can* do that!

    1. It is interesting how much our mind controls us, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by, Trudy!

  7. Drawing is one of those things I was never good at. I suppose I could have gotten good at it had I the patience to suck at something until I got good at it, but I didn't. If I had it to do over again, I'd spend the time and learn to do it well.

    1. I agree, John. I think I gave up because I couldn't see anything good in the drawing. Maybe now that I'm older I'd be a little more encouraging to myself. They say it's never to late to learn something new :)

  8. I don't draw well. It's an impressive skill.
