Blogging From A to Z - 2018 - C is for

Welcome to the letter C in the A to Z Challenge for 2018.  This year I am alphabetting my way through Michaels Arts and Crafts store.

I said I wasn't using crafts as a word and I covered coupons in the A is for App post.  I'm choosing candles for my letter C.  We have walls and walls of these jar candles in all different scents.  They have fun names like Sunset Lily, Coral Amber, Lilac and Hyacinths, Vanilla and Macaron, etc.  This was just one wall.  Aren't the colors pretty?

Turquoise Waters...doesn't that sound beachy?

There are the standard stick taper candles.

And pillars.

Tea lights

Ginger Citrus

and wax melts that don't have a wick but you put them in a holder with a tea light underneath and as the wax melts, it gives off a great scent.

There are also some interesting candle holders as well.  This is a pretty silver vine treatment that was a good foot and a half long,

I think there was room for five or six taper candles in this holder.  I couldn't fit it all in the picture.

with a matching pillar holder.

We even have the wick materials so you can make your own candles if you want.

Today you get an A to Z two-fer because the other Big C at Michaels is CLEARANCE!

There is one whole aisle of clearance things and you can find some pretty good deals here.  They take items from all over the store and put them on these shelves so it is a little bit of everything.  You could spend half an hour just in this aisle!

I think I see some washi tape rolls in this picture!  This must be from the planner section.

The wooden deer head would make a great Father's Day gift for a hunter, don't you think?  Stain or paint the background and then decoupage a picture of you and the kids in the center?  Actually, this was probably leftover from Christmas and could have been used as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

This looks like some clearance from the baking section...cookie cutters for sure.

There are also usually a few spots throughout the store with clearance on the leftover holiday decorations.  Here are some from Valentines Day.

This is what was left after one of the last Christmas sales...slim pickings!

Sometimes if there are a lot of extras Michaels will fill cardboard boxes and sell them for $4.99 a box.  The boxes are sealed and you never know what you are going to get until you open them.  (Unless you are one of THOSE customers who go through the boxes to see if it is something you want and then leave the boxes all messed up when you decide you don't want what's inside, in which case the hard working Michaels employees have to go and clean up the area and make it all pretty again) - but I digress.

In the candles above, you can see that I got a deal on the Ginger Citrus tea lights that were regularly $6.99 but I only paid $2.00!

So, next time you visit your local Michaels pick up a candle or two to make your house smell good and then check out the Clearance section and get a deal on those cookie cutters or leftover holiday decorations!

Do you buy things on clearance?  Make your own candles?  Would you open a mystery box before leaving the store?  I wanna know.

Make sure to stop by the A to Z Challenge page to find some other interesting blogs to visit!

(Note:  All pictures used in this blog series were taken by me at local Michaels stores).

    1. LOL yes, some can get overpowering. I'm not big on the flowery ones. Thanks for stopping by, Iain.

  2. I like the wall of candles. Reminds me of the dishwashing liquid aisle at the Kroger, the way the colors all sort of go together, the blues and oranges and yellows. I know that must sound crazy, but it makes for a really interesting display.

Mary will buy something on clearance if it's something we use all the time (e.g. cleaning supplies), but by and large we don't.

    1. Yes, John. Michaels uses the wall of colors a lot in their displays. Like a bunch of rainbows throughout the store. I'm all about saving money wherever I can so if it is on clearance that's a bonus to me.

  3. Mmmm I can smell the candles from here. Although, I don't buy a lot of candles, I often give and receive them as gifts. CLEARANCE...now we are talking my game. Love the clearance isles especially when yarn or other sewing stuff is on sale....scrapbooking stuff, too. I don't buy mystery boxes and definitely would not open one...I have worked in retail, too.

    1. I did see what was inside some of the "mystery boxes" and whoever put them together put to much of the same thing in one box, in my opinion. No one needs 10 Christmas stockings :)

  4. That's a pretty impressive wall of candles. I love candles and burn them a lot, but I'm pretty careful not to use those laden with chemicals and artificial scents. I can imagine as you said, that section of the store could be quite overwhelming.

I have made my own candles, and although a bit labor-intensive it's fun. I've done soy wax with essential oils and beeswax. I love the simple scent of beeswax very much indeed.

    1. Yes, I like it more than JoAnns, the only other one close to us. I've not been to a Hobby Lobby though so I can't speak to them. Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Janet I've missed out on your A-Z posts! Hopefully I'll now receive them. I could spend hours in a craft shop - so much to choose from! Their arrangement is also a delight. I light fragrant candles from time to time on my desk. Thank you!

  8. It's funny how reindeer and deer are different, until you get into crafts.
Like male reindeer shed their antlers at the end of the mating season in early December, which means that Santa's team is all females.
