Blogging From A to Z - 2018 - B is for

Welcome to the letter B in the A to Z Challenge for 2018.

You may not think of baking when you think of Arts and Crafts but Michaels has quite a baking section.  Wilton is one of our main product lines.

Remember those muffin tins I talked about yesterday?  Here they are along with cake pans and cookie trays.

There are all kinds of cake decorating supplies like different tips for applying frosting, decorative cake holders and the containers to carry the finished cake so it doesn't get wrecked.

If fondant is your thing you can find all different colors.  The big boxes of fondant are unbelievably heavy!  Aren't they pretty?

There are color coordinated tools galore for measuring and stirring.  There is parchment paper and special molds that you can use for making candy decorations or even shaped ice cubes.

Here are the candies you can melt and pour in the molds.  Side note, my husband used to handle the packaging on similar candies when he worked for Guittard Chocolate.  I used to put them in the freezer and pop a few in my mouth for a snack.  They come in all kinds of colors!

Sprinkles, frosting, writing gels, cupcake liners, it's all there.

Can't forget the cookie cutters!  There are usually special ones to coordinate with the holidays too.

Got a princess who wants a castle cake?  Here you go!

Bet my daughter wishes I had gone to Michaels to help me make a castle cake for her birthday!  Actually it looked a lot better in person than it does in the picture and I did let my 5-year-old help decorate it (no, I'm not making excuses)!

My attempt at a castle cake about 15 years ago.

As I mentioned, every holiday gets its own specialty confections.  Here are a couple for Spring and Easter.

Cookies for decorating with frosting included!

So, the next time you need something in the bakery department, check out your local Michaels!  Are you a baker?  Make any fancy cakes lately?

Make sure to stop by and visit some of the other A to Z-ers!  Coming tomorrow, the letter C.

(Note:  All pictures used in this blog series were taken by me at local Michaels stores).

  1. My guess is that "C" isn't candymaking supplies, because you kind of covered them already here...

  2. OMyGoodnes...look at all the Goodness in cakes and candy making. This is such a great theme. Michaels is so lucky to have you. I'm not a baker or a candy maker, but I always like to look at the cookie cutters for ornament shapes etc. Fun Letter B, Janet.

    1. Thanks Sue. I like to try but it doesn't always come out quite the way I think it should. I do much less now that the kids are all grown.

  3. While I'm a fairly good baker, I've never really attempted any cake "art." Taste before beauty in this case. :-) I'm very impressed with your castle cake - I'm sure it was a big hit.

    1. I'm just lucky the kids were only five or so and very much still able to be impressed by such things. Not so anymore :)

    1. LOL thanks! I was surprised myself actually. Since I am primarily a paper crafter, I didn't go by the baking section much.

  5. Yes if only Michael's were convenient to get to by transit. I don't visit it very often for that simple reason but it is a great store for a hobbiest, I do love it. Here is my letter B Response

  6. I know what you mean. I've been wanting to see what Hobby Lobby is like but we don't have one near us. Thanks for stopping by Jackie!

  7. There was an actual conversation at a "pre-wedding" party where someone asked how a certain cake was made, and the person said they got the tin from a craft store. I would not have thought that was sold there, but, well, apparently it was. "Novelty."
