A to Z Challenge - 2019 - N is for the Name Game

Most of this A to Z 10th Anniversary Challenge I've been showing you the cards I make.  Yesterday I talked about the mini-albums that are a favorite of mine as well.  Today is sort of a combination of the two of those.

I called it the Name Game because I take the letters in the person's first name and use descriptive words or phrases to celebrate them.  I made the first one for my cousin, Lynda, on the occasion of her birthday.

We had a friend who was going through the stages of breast cancer and I wanted to make something to cheer her up.  The picture cut off some of it but her name is Amy and I tried to make it as uplifting and encouraging as I could.

This one was also as a birthday card for a friend.

Underneath the flaps I put pictures of her and her family and friends.

I think everyone likes to see their names on things, I know I do.   These make great card/keepsakes for people who have everything and don't need or want presents for their birthdays or who are going through some tough times and need to know people are thinking about them.  Plus, these are small and don't take up much space.

It was relatively easy to find descriptive adjectives and phrases for these names.  Can you think of a name that might be harder?  So far I have just made these as personal gifts but I'm thinking of adding them to my Etsy site.  What would be a good name for them?  Would you buy something like this for a friend or relative?

Plenty of time left to visit the other A to Z folk.  Stop by tomorrow for the letter "O" although truthfully I have no idea what I'm gonna talk about!

  1. Great idea Janet, and I imagine you must have a lot fun doing these. I'm pretty sure there is some really cool descriptive name to give these, but I'm drawing a blank. However, if something does pop into my brain, I'll be sure to share it.

    1. Thanks Deborah. I am trying to think of something that people would search for. Personalized cards might work.

    1. Yes, Tarkabarka, your name would make a much larger book at least!

  3. Hello Janet,
First time on your blog. Loved the concept of these gifts. In fact I find personalized gifts more thoughtful. It shows the emotions and hard work of the person who gifts us these cards. Buying stuff is easier than making a gift for someone esp personalized name cards. I also try painting or doing some art work and gift these to people. You have given me a new idea to work on.

  4. Lovely ideas! It would make a good baby book too with the baby's name.

  5. I have a co worker who makes these kinds of homemade cards, and it was so wonderful to receive one of them for my birthday two years in a row. I don't do this type of crafts but I have crocheted for many years, and I have an idea of how much work goes into a homemade gift. Your work is beautiful.

    1. Thanks Alana! I have done crocheting too but very simple stuff. In fact, I am getting rid of some old yarn I've had for years and I know at this point I probably won't do anything with it.
