April 2017 - #Atozchallenge - Advancing with A

The A to Z Challenge begins today and as I said in my Theme Reveal post, I am going to combine my two passions, scrapbooking and concert going and share the Concert Album I am making.  Since I am going to be actually making some of the pages for this challenge, a few of the posts will be more descriptive about the techniques I use.  Others will be of pages I have already made and so I won't be putting the step by steps.

Therefore, without further ado...

A is for:  Adele

Interestingly, I wrote about how hard it was to get tickets for this show last year in my A to Z post of the letter "T".  I was beyond excited to get a text message saying that new tickets were available and jumped on the chance, even though they were not in my usual "up close and personal" section.

In working on my scrapbooking, the first thing I do is try and find papers that coordinate with the pictures.

First I check the colors that are in the pictures and compare them with the colors of the papers.  I really liked the way these papers had what looked like lots of twinkling lights because I knew they would go well with the sparkles on Adele's dress and the picture I had taken of the lights in the crowd.  The papers are from Paper Wishes, the Floral Fantasy collection.

The next thing is picture placement on the pages.  Sometimes I have a lot of pictures that I want to include and for those I use templates designed by Lea France:

I have a bunch of them but I chose the Rosette Stencil for this group of pictures.

Once I put the stencil down on the paper I move the pictures around until I find the spot that works best and then I mark them and cut them out.

To make the pictures stand out on the page I outlined them with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Pale Gold.  That really made them pop because the outlining is puffy on the page.

Sometimes it takes me a long time to decide which pictures to put where and what embellishments to use and I usually do one page (or two side by side) completely before I start on the next one.  This time I made all the pages first and then went back to embellish.  I found that I didn't like that way because when I went to put some of the embellishments on, the picture placement wasn't quite right so I had to carefully unstick them and move them around.  Fortunately I didn't wreck any pages, but lesson learned.

There are certain things that I try to include in each concert set:  A picture of us either on the way to the show or in our seats, the tickets and a set list of songs the group played.  Sometimes, if I can find it, I'll include a review of the show from the newspaper or online.  I also do some journaling to tell any special stories about things that happened during the show.

Here is my completed set for the Adele show.  It turned out to be 10 pages!

That's us on BART on the way to the show.  I think the Rosette template worked well here.

The special effects used on this song were just amazing.

The page on the left is one where I had to move the pictures around in order to fit the journaling card.

This one has the set list.

Here is a close up of the last one with my special souvenirs:

And there we have the letter A for Adele.  Hope you enjoyed reading about my scrapbooking techniques.  I love reliving the concerts in this way.

  1. I think you did an awesome job pairing the pictures and papers. The rosette stencil is a cool tool -- my favorite, I think, for this project. Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

  2. Hi I found your blog via Arlee Bird. I too enjoy going to concerts especially of Irish man Daniel O Donnell. The concerts have taken me many times to the US When I met Arlee in LA. I really enjoyed your letter A post in the challenge and wish you all the best for the rest of the month.

  3. I really love how you did that, and I especially love the rosette. I'm trying to incorporate more "art" into my journaling, and I just love this, as well as the idea of a special memory about your concert. Really cool!

    1. I know, right! My husband and I just love her and we were so afraid we wouldn't get a chance to see her since the 3 shows she was doing in our area sold out within MINUTES! Fortunately I'm a persistent person when it's something I really want!

  7. I LOVE scrapbooking! I tend to do very basic, simple designs (and the same thing over and over) ... but I love the idea of using these templates.

I look forward to learning new techniques throughout the month!

    1. Thanks Arlee! Concerts are my reward to myself for working so hard all year. We don't go on too many vacations so I consider this my way of relaxing.

  11. Janet, scrap-booking is one of those thing I sorta wanted to do but never got around to doing it. I admire your dedication and creativity to your passion. You did a very nice job! I can't wait to see what the next letter will reveal. ;) Thank you for visiting my #AprilA2Z Art Sketching Through the Alphabet series with the letter "A" for angels and for playing along in my April 1st round of Battle of the Bands. Have an awesome day and I hope to see you tomorrow!

  12. This is great! You put a lot of work into your scrapbooks. Does each letter get its own book or are they all bound together?

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I have them all in one (well it's grown to two now) books. I keep them in chronological order from the first concert my husband (then boyfriend) went to in the '80's.

    2. That's so cool! It has to be fun to go back and look thru them and reminisce.
