Suddenly September - 2016

September 1--

Well, here we are suddenly in the ninth month of the year and I find myself attempting to do two new challenges.  The first is one I did last September, called the Blog-tember Challenge and while I don't think I blogged every single day, I did do my fair share of it.  This year Bailey Jean has provided us with a list of prompts so if I play my cards right and plan some posts in advance, it just may work.

The prompt today is for me to introduce myself, so here goes:

My name is Janet, although sometimes I go by Jan, depending on what time of my life I was in when I met you or who introduced me to you.  I went through my entire young life as Janet and after I graduated from Bryman School and started working as a medical assistant, I started using the shortened version.  All my family and friends who knew me through high school know me by Janet. My husband, and all the friends I've met for the past 30 years know me as Jan.   I am 61 years old, as old as Disneyland I like to say, and recently I have decided that I'd rather go back to my full name so I've started introducing myself as Janet again.  I have 3 sisters, though, and all our names start with a "J" so really, I'll answer to just about anything close, and I'm sure to turn around if someone calls out "Mom."

I have been happily married (mostly - LOL) for 32 years to a really wonderful guy and together we have three great children, all grown now and living on their own (mostly - the youngest is away at college but she likes living in her own space so she's decided to stay where she is).

32 years and still going strong

I love the Giants (torture though that is sometimes) and just found a way to get reasonably priced tickets (thanks Rachel!).  I have a passion for concerts and make it my mission to get seats as close to the stage as I can.  We will have gone to 10 concerts this year by the end of the month.  Foreigner, Boston, Peter Gabriel and Sting, Adele, Melissa Etheridge, Pat Benatar and Peter Frampton are the most recent ones.

I have a transcription business and have been able to work for myself from home for the last 16 years, for which I am truly grateful.  I have begun a new business as well, to encompass my other passion, scrapbooking, card making and mini-album creations.  I have an Etsy shop and have recently started participating in vendor fairs.  I love making things out of unusual items such as turning old CDs and CD cases into mini-albums.

I love to read but don't read as much as I'd like.  I have started reading challenges for the past two years but rather than reading a book a week, it turns into more like a book a month, if I'm lucky.  Maybe if I didn't wait until right before I fall asleep to read it would work better.

The second thing I am going to try to do this month is follow the writing prompts of Mama Kat.  I have not done this before but I follow a couple of other bloggers who do and it looks like fun so I thought I'd give it a shot.  There are usually several prompts to choose from each week so I can hopefully pick one that works with whatever else I am doing at the time.  This week the one I chose was to:  Write a post where the first and last sentence contain some form of the word "find."  Be sure to visit the other participants in this project, as well as see who else is on the Blog-tember challenge.  Both links below.

So, now you know what my September is going to be like.  What are you finding yourself up to this month?

  2. Found you on Mama Kat's site. Sounds like you may be too busy to read! I am envious of those who are crafty - I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler, or cut a straight line if my life depended on it. :)

  3. Hi Janet, dropping by from the A- Road Trip :) Had to laugh at the J's story. My husband and 2 of our sons are all J's, but I was not allowed to call son number 3 a name beginning with J! Oh, and I'm a fellow crafter -and I see you have that amazing cabinet!

    1. Hi Suzanne! Thanks for stopping by. It was quite fun growing up with all those "J's." Occasionally my mom would shout out the door when we were younger, "JoAnne and Judy, time to come in" when both JoAnne and Judy had already married and left the house. Of course Jaye and I stayed outside and played a little longer because we weren't called in - LOL

  4. You think the Giants are bad, try the Braves... Although it looks like they might have a good last month of the season...

    Nice intro!

  5. This was fun to read! I'm so glad to see you jump in this week. :) I don't think I know a SINGLE Jan. It's so interesting when those classic names suddenly become the uncommon ones. Looking forward to more!
