A to Z Challenge - 2020 - Nickelback

"N" is for Nickelback.  Nickelback was the headliner when we saw Daughtry my letter "D" band.  I've used the same set of papers but will definitely have to add some more because I have A LOT of pictures.  I picked this DIY Shop set that I got from Michaels because it has a grungy look and that's how I think of Nickelback.

Here's what I came up with for the first page.  It was called the "Feed the Machine" tour and the drums were set up to look like a huge machine.

Here's the setlist from that show.  I really like several of their songs more than I thought, although some are a little more suggestive than I usually go for.  "When We Stand Together" is a great one for these times.

Here are a couple of the pictures I have.  I got some really good shots so this is going to be a several pager!

I did catch a video of "Burn It To the Ground."  It was their finale and they held nothing back.  The crowd was electric.  Enjoy.

Again, once I get the actual pages put together I'll do a follow up post.  For now I'm calling this one done and I can move on to "O."  Coming along?

A to Z Challenge - 2020 - Daughtry

"D" is for Daughtry.  He is one of my new favorites, although the first time we saw him was in 2008 as the opening act for Bon Jovi, the band I used for "B" in 2017.  I knew he had been on "America's Got Talent" but I never watched that so I wasn't really familiar with him.  I only had a couple of pictures from that show and our seats were farther away so they are not the best.

The next time we saw Daughtry was nine years later and he was again an opening act, this time for Nickelback.  These pictures were better and I found some great paper to use.  Again from Paper Wishes but I can't remember the name of the collection.  I took all the papers out of the packaging and just have them on the shelf.

I think the colors match our clothes so well.  We went with our friend, Lois, and her son but they were in the row ahead of us and to the side a bit.  I remembered to take a picture of the marquee on the way out.  Usually I get one on the way in but I think it looks cooler at night.  I'm using that as the title.

I had picked up this template at one of the Scrapbook Expos.  I am so sad they had to cancel the Expo this year.  I had been on a scrapbook spending freeze so I could shop there and I'm having a bit of withdrawal symptoms.  The backing paper matched the colors on the other page so I left it.

It was easy just to slide the pictures in and I added some sparkly to the notes.

I had this stamp and it reminded me of the flower on the first page.  I stamped it on pink paper and then used a pen to color in the notes.

Kinda looks like it, don't you think?

Time for another stencil, this one is Beach Umbrella from Lea France.

I put the Set List in the middle.  He has quite a few new songs but also sang some old ones.  "Backbone" is a great one.  I added some black triangles around the frame to complete the design.

I used blue and red triangles around the outside to fill this one in and make it match the paisley print on the page before.

Here is the finished product as it is in the album.

We've seen Daughtry two other times recently and I have much better pictures but I'm trying to fill the albums in order as best I can.  I know I'm going to have some empty pages to fill between some of these and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them.  Maybe I'll put a page in about the different venues we've been to.

That's it for "D."  Make sure to stop by some of the other A to Z-ers and come back Monday for "E."  Can you guess who it might be?

Just Jot January - 2020 - Subscribe...please?

Thanks to Willow for suggesting this #JusJoJan prompt of Subscribe.

After yesterday's posting about Chris Daughtry and his songs, I went back to YouTube today and found this gem.

I am a big Phil Collins fan as well so I listened to see if Chris could compare.  He does a fantastic job, in my opinion.  I was waiting a bit for the burst of light that Phil Collins has when he performs it but other than that, just looking at Daughtry's face as he is singing shows the passion he puts in his music.  Gives me chills.

I also saw that I had NOT subscribed to his official channel so I did that, and subscribed to Phil Collins' channel as well.

I happen to have some of both Daughtry's and Phil Collins' songs on MY YouTube channel from concerts we've been to and plan on adding some more so would love it if you would subscribe to my channel too!

Interestingly, when I typed my name in to get the link, I found that there were some other Janet Miles' out there!  Who'd have thought?

Just Jot January - 2020 - and Song Lyric Sunday

Going to try and combine two topics today, Gravity from Linda's Just Jot January as submitted by Zhenzhen and Song Lyric Sunday's prompt from Jim being Bottom/end/middle/side/top.  I'm posting late because it has taken me a while to decide what song to use and I've been working in the studio on a new project.

For the song I chose Daughtry's Deep End, from his album "Cage To Rattle" which came out in 2018.  It has a lot of good songs on it.  He is definitely one of my favorite performers.  His lyrics really have meaning and he sings them with such feeling.

Deep End
I'm underwater and I'm on fire
There's nothing wilder than my heart
Just let the current set it in motion
Then nothing can keep us apart
We're all swimming into the light
I want you by my side
And I'm right here waiting for you
Right here waiting for you
We're all living on borrowed time
I've been holding my breath all night
Waiting for you
I'm diving into the deep end
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared
And I've been way over my head
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared, no
I am an island, you are an ocean
I wanna float here in your arms
High as a mountain, deep in devotion
There's nothing wilder than your heart
We're all swimming into the light
I want you by my side
And I'm right here waiting for you
Right here waiting for you
We're all living on borrowed time
I've been holding my breath all night
Waiting for you
And now I'm diving into the deep end
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared
And I've been way over my head
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared, no
I'd follow you straight to the bottom
Not afraid, hell or high water
I wanna dive into you
I'd follow you straight to the bottom
Not afraid, hell or high water
I wanna dive into you
I'm underwater
And I'm on fire
And now I'm diving into the deep end
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared
And I've been way over my head
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared, no
I'd follow you straight to the bottom
Not afraid, hell or high water
I wanna dive into you
I'd follow you straight to the bottom
Not afraid, hell or high water
I wanna dive into you

We have seen Daughtry a few times, most recently last year at the Mountain Winery where I got a hug from one of his guitar players.

As far as the Just Jot prompt of Gravity, here's Daughtry singing his song, Gravity, also from Cage to Rattle.

So there you have it.  Jotted and Sung :)  Happy Sunday all.  See you tomorrow.

Must Be May - 2019 - First Mountain Winery Concert of the Season - Daughtry

The Mountain Winery in Saratoga is one of our favorite venues to see concerts.  It is very intimate with only about 2500 seats so almost any spot is a good one.  We have been going there since about 2006-ish and lately we have seen at least four shows a year so that we can maintain our "Loyalty Status" which gives us special access to the pre-sales before each season starts.  Pre-sales is key here because that's how I am able to get the up close and personal seats for the shows we want.  Up close and personal leads to all kinds of magic!  You may remember the time I was next to Foreigner lead singer Kelly Hansen as he strolled through the crowd, or that time my husband got a fist bump from Neil Giraldo.   While it is true that not every show holds those high standards, and sometimes we sit farther back than others, there is always that potential for interaction with the band.

Our first concert this year was Daughtry, a band we have seen before but one that puts on a very good show.  It turns out it was actually the first show for the Winery this season as well since the group for the night before had to cancel due to one of the band members breaking his arm.  Ouch!

We were not sure about the weather as some rain was in the forecast but as it got closer to show time, the weather cleared a bit and we actually had a rainbow appear.  Still, it was freezing cold (in the 50's) so we bundled up with hats, coats and blankets.  Our seats were in the fourth row from the stage, almost dead center.  Not too shabby.

Chris and the boys did not disappoint.  Even though they were cold too and left the stage occasionally to warm their hands or add some layers of clothing, there was no lack of energy.

Daughtry has a great stage presence and did a lot of interacting with the crowd, even coming down to the edge of the stage and "dancing" or taking selfies with the lucky ladies that were in the front row.

My special moment came after the show was over when Josh Steely stayed behind to hand out some picks and take some selfie's too.  Thanks to my hubby for telling me to hang around.  Josh is very friendly and took that "one last" minute for me.

Just as he was leaving Bill asked if he had a pick left and he reached into his pocket and pulled out this!

Cage to Rattle is their latest album and that's the name of the tour.  I got some neat pictures on my camera that I haven't downloaded yet and did get a couple videos too.  This is "Backbone."

Our next concert is Foreigner in a couple of weeks, also at the Winery.  We are in the second row for that one!  Hopefully the weather will be warmer.  Have you had any up close and personal experiences with celebrities?  Memorable concert moments?  Share!

Observations in October - 2018 #SLS Song Lyric Sunday

Helen's theme for this week is "Find/Found."  She says it is a trilogy with last week's "Search" and asks us to guess what the last one will be.  Someone guessed "Keep" and she said that wasn't it so I'm not sure.  Ideas?

Anyway, recently my daughter and I went to see Daughtry at the Mountain Winery and he was
singing some of the songs off his new album "Cage to Rattle."  He opened with this song:

Just Found Heaven

God of my life
Blurred out my soul
Bring storm and fire
Stories I've been told
Bring us all grace
Right before my eyes
As you break through these gates
Far from the sky, Lord
I hate to let you down, hate to let you down
Hate to say it now, hate to say it now
I don't really care where I go when I die
'Cause I just found heaven
You can tell the devil that's he's wasting his time
'Cause I just found heaven
Singin' Halle, Halle, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah
Singin' Halle, Halle, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Sins washed away
Dark turns to light
If your body is a temple
So take me inside
I feel no pain
Pleasures of mine
If you give me a taste of
Eternal life
I hate to let you down, hate to let you down
Hate to say it now, hate to say it now
I don't really care where I go when I die
'Cause I just found heaven
You can tell the devil that's he's wasting his time
'Cause I just found heaven
Singin' Halle, Halle, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah
Singin' Halle, Halle, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hate to let you down, hate to let you down
Hate to let you down, hate to let you down
I don't really care where I go when I die
You can tell the devil that's he's wasting his time
Oh, I don't really care where I go when I die
'Cause I just found heaven
You can tell the devil that's he's wasting his time
'Cause I just found heaven
Singin' Halle, Halle, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah
Singin' Halle, Halle, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Oh, Hallelujah
'Cause I just found heaven, Hallelujah
Hate to let you down, hate to let you down
Hallelujah
Hate to let you down, hate to let you down
Hallelujah

Here's a little video I took of the opening.  Copyright to Daughtry for the music but the video is mine.  It was a great show.

Observations in October - 2018 #31 Things - You

You (Me) - Not a subject that I usually talk about.  Who wants to know about me?  But, part of the 31 Things project is to go deep into "things" at this moment so here goes.  One of the things I like to do in my planner each month is to fill out a "Currently" list something like this:

Watching:  The baseball playoffs.  I'm sad that our Giants did not make it anywhere near the playoffs this year but I am rooting hard against the Dodgers and the Yankees so go Red Sox and go Atlanta!

Reading:  A book called "Son."  It is the true story of a serial rapist from the 1980's in Spokane, Washington.  I am just about to the part where he is going to be captured, thank goodness!  It is interesting to see how he was able to live a "normal" life and fool the people around him.

Listening:  OMG I am in love with the newest Daughtry CD called "Cage to Rattle" (more on that tomorrow) and the new Steve Perry CD, "Traces."  It has been a LONG time since Steve Perry has done anything in the music world and there are a lot of us out there (as evidenced by the Facebook group anyway) who have been waiting for this.  I love most of the songs on it but I wish there was at least one to rock out to.  Mostly they are ballads and you can hear the influence of Sam Cooke and the like.  The story is he made a promise to his girlfriend before she passed away that he would not give up on his music.  These songs are some heartfelt tributes to her for sure.  I'm crossing my fingers he decides to tour to promote this CD because I'm sure if he does he'll add some of his rocking songs.

Making:  I just finished making an offering for Halloween.  It is a decoration that holds a mini-album I made with paper bags.  I think it came out pretty good.

Feeling:  Excited.  We have a couple of really good concerts coming up!  We are seeing Lindsey Buckingham on Tuesday and we paid a little extra for VIP seats so we are getting a signed poster and his new CD Anthology.  Later this month my son and I are going to see Phil Collins in his "Not Dead Yet" tour.  We have one more in November, Fleetwood Mac.  It will be interesting to see Fleetwood with Mike Campbell (from Tom Petty's band) and Neil Finn (from Crowded House) instead of Lindsey.  Some drama there, right?

Planning:  I have a few new ideas for ways to use my creative talents to bring in some extra cash.  I have also signed up to do a Holiday Boutique next month so I have to get some more inventory going.

Loving:  Our local library had a book sale today and my daughter and I went and got some good books.  It was $7 to fill a grocery bag full of books.  This is my haul:

I was really glad I had included the picture of the Nancy Drew books I had in an earlier post because I was able to look at it and get some of the ones I was missing!  I was also able to get some of the Sue Grafton novels that I didn't have.  I won't ever have the complete set since she died before she did the letter "Z."

That's me currently.  How about you?  Like talking about yourself?  Do you do a list like this in your planner?  Do you like this #31 Things thing?  Love to hear about it!
