According to Wikipedia, Clarkson wrote the song when she was 16 and suffering through the pain of her parent's divorce. It was about her relationship with her father. She claims it is the most depressing song she's ever written.
Most everyone knows the Kelly Clarkson version but I have heard a duet she does with Reba McIntyre and with this video, I think they are trying to speak about domestic violence. I think their voices work really well together.
I didn't participate much in the Song Lyric Sunday's during April because I was so busy with the A to Z so it was nice to hop back in this week. Thanks, Jim for continuing this theme. Happy Sunday all!
Big Kelly Clarkson fan here and most of her music stays on my current playlists. 'Because of You' is a favorite.
ReplyDeleteI'd heard the Kelly/Reba duet before and it's a powerful collaboration. Excellent choice! 👍
Thanks Felicia!
DeleteI have heard of this song since it was released but I didn't know the backstory before. Thanks for the story!
ReplyDeleteI just read about it as I was getting the lyrics today. I was surprised.
DeleteNew song for me. Reba and Kelly's voice do sound great together. Really highlights how family situations can have such a devastating effect on our relationships as adults.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Jade! As a mom I am learning that more and more. I had a really great childhood and I forget sometimes that other people don't. I have tried to make our kids as healthy as possible and I have seen how their friend's parent's divorces have affected them.
DeleteNice song Janet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim. Hope your technical difficulties have resolved.
