Just Jot January - 2018

Pants is the prompt for today's #JusJoJan sponsored by Linda G. Hill and as suggested by "Pen" at Pensivity101

Last year my husband and I went to the Summer of Love exhibit at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco and we were brought back to the seventies.  There were several different fashion areas and I took a lot of pictures of the different outfits I would love to have today.  This is not one of them, but it does show the multicolored pants people were wearing back then.

My husband said he had a pair of jeans from that time that he sewed different colored patches on.  I was always a (little) overweight and did not think that the bright colors and large patterns would look good on me.

Here are some retro-inspired yoga pants/leggings that you can get now.  I love the colors but somehow I don't think that garden would look quite as good on my legs.

These are just wrong:

I'm sure I would feel like I had had an accident in my pants if I had to wear these.

Here is me, from our eighth grade graduation picnic in 1969.  I went to a Catholic school and this was one of the first times we got to wear anything other than our dull green and gray uniforms.

I thought I was fat then.  Wish I looked like that now except for the chest area if you know what I mean - (I'd say boobs but my kids read my blog once in a while).  Looks like rainbow sherbet doesn't it?

Have you ever worn wildly decorated pants?  Like the style with the crotch to your knees?  Love to hear!

Hope you are enjoying the #JustJoJan.  Feel free to hop right in any time!

December Reflections - 2017 - Favorite photo of 2017

This is a tough one!  We've done so much stuff this year and I have taken some pretty good photos, if I do say so myself.  I'll try to narrow it down to my top 5, in no particular order:

The shot I got of the eclipse through double welder's glasses.  This was as close as we got to the total eclipse.

The "new" drummer for Scorpions, Mikkey Dee.  This was during his solo and he really put himself into it.

I saw these legs sticking out from the window on Haight (or maybe Ashbury) Street when we went to see the Summer of Love in San Francisco.  I made my husband drive around the block so I could get a better view.  He's so good to me.

The splash of the San Francisco Bay on the rocks on one of my walks.  I'm a Pisces so I'm drawn to the water and this is an easy spot for me to get to.  It's pretty cold out now but I may get back out there.

The Fab Four.  I love the colors in their outfits.  If you have never seen them, I highly recommend it.

I know there are more photos that I love, but I am going to try my hand at a slideshow of the 365 picture project I did this year so I don't want to double up too much.

Do you have a favorite picture this year?  Tell us about it!

August Adventures - I made it

August definitely was a month of adventures!  We saw two concerts (Fab Four and Pat Benatar and Toto), took a trip down memory lane at the Summer of Love exhibit and I successfully completed all the August Break picture prompts.

In addition to all that, I managed to be pretty busy in my craft room too and made these goodies to put up for sale on my Etsy shop:

Cake shaped gift card holders

Ice cream cone shaped gift card holders

Mug shaped gift card holders

Wedding card

Thinking of you

Christmas

Masculine birthday

Christmas two sided gift card holder

Male birthday or anniversary ticket/gift card holder

Purse shaped birthday/Just Because tag/gift card holder

September promises to start out with a bang as well.  Tomorrow I have a JOB INTERVIEW!  I have been working for myself from home for the last 17 years but the majority of my medical transcription has dwindled and if I want to continue going to my concerts, I need to find a way to supplement the income.  The interview is at Michael's Crafts so I am thinking it will be a good fit.  Still, not only have I worked for myself for so long, even when I was out in the job force I have never worked in retail.  I'm going to think positively.

Over the weekend we have concerts:  Foreigner, Cheap Trick and Jason Bonham on Saturday and Nickelback and Daughtry on Sunday.  Then things settle down somewhat until the end of the month when we go to Boulder Creek for the annual golf tournament my husband golfs in.  We've been doing that for over 20 years!  I'm glad we have some time because I just realized that I need to get the pictures from last year put together for the scrapbook!

How about you?  Manage to come through August okay?  Big plans for September?  Love to hear about it.

August Adventures - The Summer of Love

Admittedly I was probably a bit young for the actual Summer of Love.  I was 12 in 1967, which is the year they are using as the 50th anniversary.  In that summer I was between 6th and 7th grade and going to a Catholic school.  Not much chance of free love or drug culture there, although I suspect some of my classmates might have been more adventurous than I.  Anyway, my husband was four years older than I and that made him a teenager at that time, not in Catholic school for sure and definitely more experimental than I was.  He was very interested in seeing some of the Summer of Love exhibits around San Francisco so we went to the DeYoung Museum to catch one of them before it ended on August 20.

In front of the museum they had street signs depicting the difference in the last 50 years:

In the entryway there were tons of button messages on the windows:

Once inside there were rooms and rooms filled with the clothes, posters and other artifacts from the Summer of Love.

Some of these clothes I would love to have.  Perhaps I am a hippie in spirit after all!

Love the fringe on the jackets

and the big bell sleeves

I can imagine this being very heavy to wear for a long period.  No wonder she is sitting!

I want this dress!

And this coat

Jerry Garcia's Hat

Cool boots, no?

There were pictures of the rock and roll groups of the times:

Jimi Hendrix

Santana

Grace Slick and Janis Joplin

There were signs explaining different aspects of the culture and significance of sayings:

And posters, posters, posters:

These were in a black light room and were kinda cool the way they changed shapes.

There was a whole room with posters covering every spot on the wall and ceiling.

In fact, to be honest my husband was kind of disappointed in the exhibit.  He thought that it was too focused on the posters, clothes and photographs.  We did not pay the extra to get the audio tour and maybe that would have made some difference, although I don't really see how.  Everything had plaques with a description of what was being shown so we could read all about it, rather than listening to someone tell us the same thing.  There was a room with bean bag chairs and music playing so you could sit down and get the feel of what it was like to experience a concert but I think if I had tried to sit on one of them I wouldn't have been able to get up - these old bones you know?

The hippie

I dressed the part, don't you think?

It took us about an hour or so to go through the whole thing.  When we were done we drove around the actual Haight Ashbury district and I got a few pictures of interesting sights:

The real street sign

Painted building

?Drug culture?

Not the Painted Ladies but still kinda cool houses.

Not quite sure what goes on here but I made my husband go around the block so I could snag this photo.

He took pictures of a few of the different houses he lived in when growing up in San Francisco.  That was not one of them :)  All in all it was a very fun day.

What do you think?  Were you a hippie at heart?  In San Francisco during that time period?  Love to hear about it!
