June’s Just Jumbled

It’s been a whole month already! I don’t know about you but I’ve been feeling like I’m on a roller coaster. To give you a glimpse, on the 17th of May I got my second COVID booster. I had no reaction right away. A week later I either had a very delayed reaction or the worst cold I’ve had in years. I was sore and achy, had some head congestion and cough but mostly was just so tired. All of those are symptoms of Covid but I took two home tests and both were negative. I’m fine now but it was not fun.

Then at the end of May we lost a very close friend. Liver disease. He had been a drinker his entire life and it finally caught up with him. He had been at the hospital with us for the birth of our first daughter. He was not even old enough to be on Medicare!

I have been consumed with watching the January 6th Committee Hearings. Anger, frustration, fear, pride and gratitude to the brave Americans who stood up for the constitution, so many emotions.

And yet, there have been some fun things. I had a chance to sell my creations at our city’s annual Posy Parade.

We had a nice dinner with some close friends and there was a book sale at the library! Fill a bag of books for $10. Here’s what I got but I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t pick more. I could have filled another bag full I’m sure. Lots of Koontz and mostly all mysteries except for a couple that are on my scratch off poster of 100 books to read. I even got two that I already have so next time I’m bringing my list so I can be more selective.

We celebrated the anniversary of moving into our house. It was on Flag Day 26 years ago. We did a little facelift on it a few years ago. It’s been a great place for us.

We had a family dinner at Benihana’s. First time we have eaten there as a family since 2017.

And last but not least, I’ve been doing a lot of work in the studio since I haven’t had much transcription. I even made another Instagram reel! You can see these things on the Etsy site. Feel free to share!

Hubby and I also watched the mini-series on Hulu called “Dopesick” about the Oxycontin addiction. It starred Michael Keaton and was really good.

So you can see my month has been all over the place. Did you miss me?

  1. Hi, Janet!

I'm delighted to see something from you on your site, dear friend! How's my buddy Benny these dog days of summer?

I'm sorry that you developed cold or flu-like symptoms following your latest COVID booster. I got my 4th shot a few weeks ago, and so far have had no adverse reaction. I'm also terribly sorry to learn that you lost a dear friend at a too young age, apparently as a result of a lifetime of heavy drinking. As I told you before, I saw the handwriting on the wall 30 years ago and quit drinking altogether. It finally dawned on me that I was lying to myself and others when I suggested that I could drink in moderation. In reality, I was never able or willing to do that, so I needed to quit cold turkey.

It was nice to see a shot of your attractive display at the Posy Parade. That was a heck of a deal at the library book sale. Looks like you stuffed your sack with treasures. I enjoy Dean Koontz stuff.

What a coincidence! Mrs. Shady and I moved into our house at the end of January, 1996 - 26 years ago. You performed an excellent facelift on your place. I'm so glad you were able to have a family dinner at your favorite eatery, Benihana’s, for the first time in five years. You, Bill and the kids are all looking great!

I enjoyed examining your wares. The travel photo album and wildlife plaques are beautiful, and I love those rectangular artwork signs that have slots where you can slip in a card with a message honoring a baseball coach or a friend.

Thanks for letting me know about the Hulu miniseries Dopesick. I like Michael Keaton.

FYI - I have a new post currently running, one that promotes my all-time favorite TV series. I hope you can stop by. Have a wonderful week, dear friend Janet!

    1. Hi Shady! Thanks for your kind words about my crafty projects. It always amazes me when I hear how often some people move. I was 4 months pregnant when we moved and we did not plan the move very well at all. We moved in one weekend and neither of us took the next day/week off to get settled. It was one of our extremely hot weekends as well so when I think of moving, I remember that scenario and put the thought right out of my mind - LOL.

Dopesick is actually based on a true story and it was very interesting to see how greedy and manipulative the Sackler family was. After having gone through my husband's back injury with him, I could easily see how he could have gotten addicted to something like that. His pain was really bad at times. Thank goodness by then the doctors were aware of what the pills could do and did not prescribe them.

We were surprised as a family that we had not had dinner together at Benihana's in so many years. We were also pleased that we didn't have any arguments!

I am off to visit your spot dear friend. Thanks for the heads up. Have a great rest of your week, buddy.

  2. Sorry for the loss of your friend.
Some say that a reaction to a Covid vaccine shot is a sign it was in the body and is now being eliminated, but that it's hard to prove because the numbers aren't high enough for most tests to detect and the tests that could prove it rarely happen before the immune system has now done what the shot is for- cleaned out the threat. I don't know.
The Jan 6 thing... the trouble is that both sides felt they were defending the constitution. One side by doing the jobs they are paid to do, the other side with a violent attack to try to overthrow the government using terror, violence, and by removing those in power who stood in their way. Though the commission keeps revealing that one group was operating under false information. But both sides still think the other side is operating under false information.
I'm in Pennsylvania. One of the people who took part in the Jan 6 attack is running for Governor of my state. He said he wasn't there. But then he was presented with video and pictures of his being there. So then he remembered being there, but just watching. Which still doesn't account for some images taken by multiple sources. That's gonna be interesting in November. Our next Governor might end up in Federal Prison for treason and other law violations. If not, he plans to de-register all voters and implant policies so only certain people can vote in PA, abolish abortion and birth control of any means, and basically outlaw any vaccines or Covid protections because it's "pretend," and abolish any rights of the LGBTQ+ community - especially of trans people. It's terrifying here.

I wrote a humorous piece for the June WEP prompt.
And I have my favorite book world narrowed down for the IWSG July prompt.
July 03 is Plastic Bag Free Day, which hopes to eliminate single-use plastic bags.
Over at Operation Awesome, our Pass or Pages query contest opens Monday with July's family saga genre. Know any writers who might want to enter?

    1. Hi J! Thanks for stopping by. I agree that things are very scary and am grateful that I live in California; however, I know that will only last as long as we can keep our Democratic governor. It terrifies me to think that we might lose all of our basic rights on the whim of some whacko.
I'll have to head over to your spot to read your WEP post. I am sorry I don't visit very often. Your posts don't come to me as an email and I keep forgetting to check my Blogger feed.
Here in CA we have been using our own reusable bags since 2016. If you want the store to give you a bag they charge for it.
Hope you have a safe holiday weekend. We'll be lighting the small fireworks in front of our house like we always do. Crossing fingers the weather cooperates.
