Our friend John gives us an opportunity each month to send someone in the corner to take a time out. Last month I missed it but this month I remembered the beef I have with toilet paper so I’m sending all TP manufacturers to Stand In The Corner!
Everyone knows of the toilet paper shortage we’ve been through with the pandemic. Photos of toilet paper packages floated through the internet. I was so excited to score both toilet paper and paper towels in one trip.
I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really don’t understand why all the toilet paper companies have to make the rolls be so large. MEGA size says 4 regular rolls packed into one. I am pretty sure that I am not alone in the fact that our toilet paper holders are not deep enough to accommodate the extra width of these things. Our house was built in 1955 and even the bathroom that we remodeled a couple of years ago, while it has a more modern holder, still doesn’t lend itself easily to this size.
My husband went to Staples the other day and they have some regular sized rolls so he got a pack. Look at the difference!
And I don’t even know how to figure out the prices because the ones from Staples were $15 for 24 of what they call double rolls while the Charmin from Safeway (not the one pictured) was 12 MEGA for $18 but they don’t really look four times as big. And most of the stores that I have been in don’t even seem to offer a choice anymore. It is either the MEGA or nothing! It also doesn’t take into account my aggravation factor when I have to put the roll of toilet paper on the sink until we use enough of it so it will fit in the holder.
Therefore, I wish to make the toilet paper companies “Stand in the Corner” until they go back to at least offering a choice of sizes! Thanks John, I feel much better now.

Oh goodness yes they deserve to be in the corner. I'm not sure we even have the mega size here but it would cause me the same problems. And yes making it hard to do a price comparison would drive me nuts!

Your post reminds me of Keith Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" feature. I share your pet peeve about manufacturers of bathroom tissue. Our house was built in 1996 and the supersize rolls don't fit our holder either. If you load a new roll and try to dispense paper, you tear off one measly sheet at a time. Either that or the spindle pops loose and it and the roll crash to the floor. We use your method of waiting until several layers of tissue have been used before installing the roll.
I hope your weather is better than the kind most of the country is getting. We've had days of heavy rain with flooding, but the temp is mild and we're in good shape compared to millions of others.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has to wait to install the roll. I mean, what are you going to do with one square? WE have had some rain here and it has been a bit chilly but nothing to complain about. Have a wonderful week good buddy.

If so, it will be drivers who don't completely stop at crosswalks. (This happens all the time where I live and it totally drives me crazy!) Thanks for letting me share this little rant!
ReplyDeleteHi Donna! Yes, absolutely you can share your Go Stand IN the Corner rant anytime! We call that a "California Stop" because, yes, tons of people do it here too. Kind of just a roll through. When I was learning how to drive my mom would tell me that at every stop sign I should say, "Jesus, Mary and Joseph," effectively praying while stopping. I don't always pray but I do stop.
DeleteI don't see much in the way of mega toilet rolls here in Australia, but I bought a pack of mega handtowel rolls a while back and realized they didn't fit in the dispenser inside my pantry door. The roll wouldn't turn and I had to keep taking it off until it got small enough to fit - never again!

ReplyDeleteI know that when they first came out with the larger sizes, Charmin was giving away TP extenders that could fit in the holders and make them able to hold the larger rolls. https://charminspindle.aerofulfillment.com/ It still exists, but only one per household. Beyond that, I guess you have to shop online. Sorry, multi toilet homes!
Why am I the one who knows this? The guy who has actually used leaves many, many, many times. (I like the forest.) But for some dumb reason, this is a thing I know.
You can still leave them in the corner. I'm sure they didn't hand out "essential employee raises" or anything. (And by SURE I mean I know someone at P&G.)
