Sweet September -2018 #SLS Song Lyric Sunday

Today's prompt from Helen is "Sleep."  Hope you are feeling better, Helen.

My choice for this week is "Sleeping With The Telephone" by Reba McIntyre and Faith Hill.  It is off the "Duets" album Reba made several years ago with a few of her friends.  There are some really good songs on it.  This is about all those women who's mates are in the service of their country, either in the military or in police and fire departments.  I think we sometimes forget the sacrifices they make in their lives as well.  My husband was a truck driver for a while and one day I did get a call about an accident.  Changed our lives (he was not physically injured but emotionally is sometimes worse).  Even that is not the same as this type of worry.

The lyrics:

Sleeping With the Telephone:

I knew who he was
When I took his name
But somehow knowin'
Is just not the same late at night
He knows the danger
But he does what he does
He calls it duty
But I call it love
So here I am
While he's gone
To some foreign land
And I cry
'Cause I'm all alone
And the nights get so cold and long
And I try not to think he won't come home
But I'm sleeping with the telephone
The yellow ribbon on my neighbor's gate
Always reminds me that someone's awake
Just like me
I hear the sirens
And I watch the news
He laughs and leaves with his gun
And his blue uniform
And I pray God keeps him safe from harm
And I cry
'Cause I'm all alone
And the nights get so cold and long
And I try not to think he won't come home
But I'm sleeping with the telephone
I loose him in my darkest dreams
And my blood runs cold and my heart skips a beat
So I get up, I can't take anymore
Sometimes I hate how much I love him
But everyday I love him more
And I try not to think he won't come home
But I'm sleeping with the telephone
Something awakes me from where he should be
I reach for him, the telephone rings

Thanks again, Helen for giving us the inspiration for this.  I just got back from our annual trip to Boulder Creek where my husband is in a golf tournament and we went to a concert the other night with Foreigner, Def Leppard and Journey so keep your eyes open for more posts from me!  Bet you can't wait :)

    1. Thanks, definitely a tear jerker if you think about it. We had a good time even though my husband didn't place in the tournament. Thanks for stopping by!
