Rocktober Music Fest - 2019 and Song Lyric Sunday - Finally Found a Home

Today we have Huey Lewis and the News to help us with Rocktober Music Fest and Song Lyric Sunday's prompt of Hide/Seek/Lost/Found.  Thanks Mary and Jim for hosting these fun challenges.

The first time we saw Huey Lewis was when I won tickets from a radio station.  I had never won anything before but this was a relatively new station and the way to enter was just by sending in your email address so it seemed simple enough.  I came home from serving jury duty one day to find the tickets in the mail.  I think that this is when the concert bug bit me and there's been no turning back ever since.

The seats were in the second level and we had to drive about an hour and a half to get there but it was worth it.  Interestingly, Huey Lewis was the opening act for Chicago and they stole the show in our opinion.  We actually left early because Chicago just wasn't doing it for us.  In fact, the best reaction Chicago got from the audience was when they brought Huey back out to sing with them! I also realized that I needed a better camera if I was going to be able to take decent pictures. 

The next time was at the Mountain Winery which is one of our favorite places.  This time Dwight Clark of the 49ers was there and came up on stage to sing "Hip to Be Square" with the band.

Some of the 49ers had actually sung the chorus on the original song.  Not being a football fan and especially not a niner fan, I wasn't that impressed but the rest of the crowd went wild.

I think of all the times we've seen Huey and his band, the best time had to be when they did the entire Sports album at the Mountain Winery.

The worst performance was also at the Winery and it was the last time we saw them.  Uncharacteristically it rained and the show had to be stopped for 45 minutes.

When the band finally came back out they told us they only had time for a few more songs because of the curfew and asked if we wanted to hear some new songs or the oldies.  I'm pretty sure the crowd shouted for the oldies but instead they did some new tunes.  We were not impressed and have chosen not to see them again. 

Huey Lewis has had to stop touring because of some hearing loss but I just read that they released a song from that latest album "Soulsville" which was put out in 2010 and that they are planning to release a new album in 2020 with songs that were recorded before his hearing issues.

The song for today is "Finally Found a Home."

We only have a few more days of the Rocktober Music Fest and I don't know about you but I have been having a great time playing along and catching some really great music from the other participants as well.  What are we going to do for November? 

Man, It's May! Father's Day T-Shirt Mini-Album

I've made several mini-albums for the moms out there but very few for dads so this year I decided to make one in the shape of a t-shirt.  It is made using chipboard so it is pretty sturdy.  I chose a cream colored background for this one but I could easily make it in any color.

Inside the first "page has a pocket with two cards in it.  There is room to write a message and/or put some pictures.  This one has a baseball theme.

The next page is similar but has a football theme.  Again there are spots for writing and/or pictures.   The TV has a few lines to write on too, to celebrate that arm chair quarterback :)

 Inside the back cover is an envelope so you can tuck in a gift card or tickets to the next game.

The back cover proclaims that this is for the World's Best Dad.

On the other side is a spot for pictures with a tie on the front, where you can write a note or talk about what makes dad one of a kind. 

There is a spot for some more memories.

Finally, one more spot for a picture and some notes on the chair.

It is held together with blue rings and some ribbons and stars for decoration.  Chalk is used to detail the edges.

Here are the inside pocket cards.  As you can see there is plenty of room to make this a really special gift for a great guy.

Definitely one of a kind and not your usual tie kind of gift!

So, what do you think?  I am kind of pleased with how it turned out.  It is for sale on my Etsy site and can be made as a special order if you wanted to choose different colors or have one made for a fisherman or golfer instead of baseball and football.  Next I'm thinking of one with a tool belt for the handyman!

April 2017 - #Atozchallenge - Heaven's it's H

H is for Huey Lewis and the News.

Huey Lewis is responsible for my concert addiction.  He doesn't know that of course, but back in 2006 I won tickets to one of his concerts through a radio station.  I wrote about that last year during the A to Z - R for Radio.

It was the first concert we had been to in many years and Huey Lewis really rocked.  He was so good, even Chicago, the other group playing that night, had him come out on stage with them.  His performance with them was the best part of their show, in my opinion.  My pictures, however, are not so good.  I even printed some of them in black and white to see if that would help.

Since that concert in 2006, we've seen Huey Lewis at least 4 times.  All the rest have been at the Mountain Winery, where we are able to get good seats near the stage.

In 2009 we saw them and our seats were pretty close, about the 5th row back!

Dwight Clark was in the audience and he went up on stage to sing "Hip to Be Square," which is a song that he and some of the other then 49-ers had sung back-up vocals on.  At the end of the show Huey says, "I'm Huey Lewis and you've just heard the News!"

A few years later, in 2013, we saw Huey again at the Winery.  This venue is such a good one that there are almost no bad seats in the house.  We were a little farther back this time, Section 11.  They were doing a special "Sports" tour, celebrating 30 years of their musical album of the same name.  Although the album I am working on is all about concerts and other stage shows we've seen, I like to incorporate other things besides music so for this layout I used papers from this We R Memories scrapbook pad called MVP.  

There was a sheet that looked like the sports section of the newspaper so I used that for the second page.  On it I was able to include a partial review of the show from Jason Debord of Rock Subculture.  He's got some great pictures but then again, he has press credentials!

  

Even though the songs aren't sports related, I used other embellishments on the layouts to give it that sporty feel.  I broke the set list up and put it on two separate pages because the first part of the concert was the whole Sports album, front to back, and the second half was other hits of theirs.

They did their typical ending where they all come to the front of the stage and pose together.  

We've seen them twice more, once in 2014 and again last year but those aren't scrapped yet and I have to get on to the letter "I" so they will have to wait.  Each of those years has a story and I can't do them justice by rushing.  

There's "H" and again I say it is Huey Lewis' fault that I am such a concert fanatic now because if he had had a bad performance that first time we saw him, I don't think we would have been in such a hurry to spend the money on another show.  After all, those tickets were free and Chicago was a disappointment so we (I) wouldn't have felt the pull.
