Well, Thursday was my birthday. I’m 67. I at first thought I was going to be 68 but when I realized I was only 67 I felt so much younger. Actually I feel pretty good. My weight has been plateaued for a couple months but it is down from last year by about 15 pounds so I’m okay with that. I still have another 25 or so to go. Because I’ve been eating healthier my blood tests are all normal, I don’t have to take meds for diabetes anymore and my blood pressure is in acceptable range.
About the only problem I have is my right knee. It has been off center since I had a tripping incident when the kids were younger and we were at a roller skating rink. A young person stopped short in front of me and in order to avoid rolling over them I did a quick pivot and my knee didn’t quite make the same movement. And then there was that time that I tripped down the back steps and actually broke my kneecap.
I can tell you it is no fun being in a leg brace, even one that is bendable. I am not really coordinated when it comes to crutches either. So my leg does occasionally ache but I think having 70 pounds less to carry around helps with that too.
I much prefer the kind of trip we made Thursday which was to Graton Casino. I was hoping that they would give some kind of bonus for it being my birthday but they said they stopped doing that when they reopened after the pandemic. I’d think they would have kept something like that to encourage people to make the trip there but what do I know?
I did have a short bit of excitement when I got this winner!
Unfortunately, as exciting as that was, we didn’t win enough to allow me to retire – LOL. I may or may not have been doing some research for my upcoming A to Z theme of dating. I’ll let you be the judge of that. Which type of trip would you prefer? A trip to the ER after a fall or a trip to a casino where you could possibly win some money? Thanks to Linda for the prompt for today’s SoCS.

Hi, Janet!
ReplyDeleteHappy happy happy birthday, dear friend! 67 is the new 17, just saying... It's funny that you thought you were turning 68 this year. You remind me of Mrs. Shady. While it's true that she usually recalls her own age and birthday, she forgets everybody else's, including mine. :) If you lost 15 pounds since last year, that's quite an achievement. You can feel proud. It is also great news that your various health stats improving. You are certainly heading in the right direction and I applaud you.
However, I am sorry to learn that you have a bum knee that's been plaguing you for many years. Yessum, it absolutely helps that knee to keep all that excess weight off of it. Good for you!
I enjoyed your casino video. I can see how addictive it would be to sit at one of those machines listening to boomer oldies while the machine whirls away mesmerizing you with its vivid colors and nonstop noises and action. I'm sorry you didn't win the big jackpot, which I would have been happy to share with you. I'd even be willing to split it 50-50. :) Yessum,I suspect that you might use this trip to the casino as one of your A to Z posts, but you might have other ideas by now.
Once again, happy birthday to you, dear friend Janet, no matter if you are celebrating the occasion surrounded by family and friends or savoring some quiet "me" time in the studio. Thanks again for being my Early Bird on a Saturday and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Thanks Shady! I didn't mention the tunes but you caught on real quick. Yes, I was bopping in my chair as the pennies rolled in. I'm in the studio now attending to some crafty business I got. Wonderful to see you here.
DeleteHappy Birthday, Janet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna!
DeleteHappy birthday! I know from experience how uncomfortable those leg braces are - I'm also good at tripping. Glad you had the better version of a trip despite not making your fortune lol
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. Watching those lights go off and the music play is always fun.
DeleteHappy birthday! What fun to realize you are a whole year younger!!
ReplyDeleteRight? Thanks for the birthday wishes.
DeleteHappy birthday! I miss our casino trips that we used to take frequently before the COVID stuff. There are many within a hundred mile or so radius, but now with the price of gas that can get expensive. There are a few that are pretty close but they are for cards or some sort of Asian games that I don't know what's going on. We like a few spins of slot machines until we cap our $20 limit. My wife seems to win a lot while my $20 goes fast. But if she's winning she'll share so I can keep playing longer.
ReplyDeleteTake care!

Tossing It Out
LOL sounds like the way my husband and I do it only he plays poker while I play the slots. Our son works in a card room and he has learned all those games. They are still confusing for me!
