Rocktober Music Fest - 2019 - and other October Oddities Sir, Please

I said yesterday that my husband and I saw REO Speedwagon in a show at the San Jose Civic and that the opening act was a band called "Sir, Please" which included Kevin Cronin's twin sons, Shane and Josh Cronin.

Shane and Josh Cronin
The other members of the band include Michael Leese, who reminds me of a young Jon Cryer (think Pretty in Pink), Marshall Via, who reminds me of a young Tom Petty, and David Kohn who doesn't remind me of anyone but plays a pretty good set of drums!

Since "Dance" is my word of the year, I was particularly struck by this song called "Dance With Me."  Have a listen and read the lyrics below.

LYRICS

I get around but I want you to show me how,
How to lay my heart out on the line.
Should I finally mean it this time?
What is it about you and the way you move, you can groove to the beat of my heart.
Maybe cupid’s just doing his part.

‘Cus I know that I’m yours.
So meet me on the floor.

Dance with me, move your body baby this is meant to be.
Flowing like the ocean you’re so heavenly.
I gotta get you tonight.
Why don’t you dance with me.
Don’t tell me that it’s love i know it’s got to be
‘Cus when were on the floor its only you and me.
I know we won’t sleep tonight.

She calls me with her eyes they tell of paradise, baby show me a new point of view.
Prove to me that this story is true.

Cus I know that I’m yours.
So meet me on the floor.

Dance with me, move your body baby this is meant to be.
Flowing like the ocean you’re so heavenly.
I gotta get you tonight.
Why don’t you dance with me.
Don’t tell me that it’s love i know it’s got to be
Cus when were on the floor its only you and me.
I know we won’t sleep tonight.

Dance with me, move your body baby this is meant to be
Flowing like the ocean you’re so heavenly.
I gotta get you tonight.
Baby why don’t you dance with me.
Don’t tell me that it’s love i know it’s got to be
Cus when were on the floor its only you and me.
I know we won’t sleep tonight.

I think this is a really catchy tune and I have been listening to it a lot while writing this post.  I'm going to keep my eye on these guys to see if they release some more songs.  I know they did a few others last night but some of them were covers.

I am hoping that the Rocktober Music Fest host, Mary at JingleJangleJungle, allows for new rock music to be included.  What do you think of this one?

Rocktober Music Fest - 2019 - and other October Oddities

I hope everyone is enjoying all the great music being featured in the Rocktober Music Fest, both on my little blog and the other people participating.  You are visiting them, aren't you?  Since today is Sunday, we also have the Song Lyric Sunday group.  I'm not into football and THE ASTROS BEAT THE YANKEES (YAY!) so I can spend the day nicely in my studio listening and crafting.

Last night the hubs and I went to a newish for us venue, the San Jose Civic, and saw REO Speedwagon.  I had seen Steely Dan there many years ago with my girlfriend but Bill had never been.  It is another one of the smaller venues (about 2500 seats) so almost any seat is a good one.

Interestingly, the opening act was called Sir, Please and two of the guys in that band were actually Kevin Cronin's twin sons.

After he told us that, I realized there was a little family resemblance.

I tried to find a song they sang that had anything to do with today's #SLS prompt of Lean/Sit/Stand and the closest I could get was this one:

Tough Guys
She doesn't like the tough guys
They think that they can do anything they please
But they're gonna get a surprise
When she brings them to their knees
'Cause she doesn't like the rough guys
They think they can have any girl they choose
They've got tricks but my baby got wise
So in case you haven't heard the news
She doesn't like the tough guys
She doesn't like the rough guys
So find some one you own size
'Cause she's not afraid of you
She doesn't like the tough guys
She says that they've got brains all where they sit
They think they're full of fire
She thinks they're full of shit
She doesn't like the tough guys
She doesn't like the rough guys
She's gonna call your bluff guys
And you better believe it's true
She don't like you
She doesn't like the tough guys
They think that they can do anything they please
But they're gonna get a surprise
When she brings them to their knees
'Cause she doesn't like the rough guys
They think they can have any girl they choose
They've got tricks but my baby got wise
So in case you haven't heard the news
She doesn't like the tough guys
She doesn't like the rough guys
So find some one your own size
'Cause she's not afraid of you
She doesn't like the rough guys
She said she heard enough lies
She's gonna call your bluff guys
And you better believe it's true
Tough guys tough guys
Ooh get along tough guys
You might has gone forget it
Tough guys
Oh you know you know she love me better
Tough guys tough guys

Here's one I got last night, "Take It On The Run:"

We have no other concerts scheduled for this year but it was a good one to end the season with.  Happy Sunday!
